Friday, May 30, 2003 ::: OMAGGIO A BERIO Luciano Berio is dead. What a shame. One of my old composition professors studied with him, and I admire his music quite a lot. I recently spent some time studying his Sequenza No. 3 for female voice, which is phenomenal. Berio had a very interesting, and I think inciteful, perspective on virtuosity: he said that virtuosity was the struggle of the musician against the physical limitations of the instrument. He will be missed.
